When will the barriers stop?
When will we finish fighting to loosen all the strings imposed to hold us down?
When will women no longer have to show double proof that they are where they are through hard work and not because of what is between their legs?
When will we stop seeing words like whore and prostitute as normal.
Where statements like “Know your place”, ” you are just a woman “, ” you are ordinary” meant to keep us in check are no longer there.
How long will we do this for?
The struggle is on and the movement is real. Someday, maybe not today, we will get to that point where we will be respected and treated for who we really are.
But today, I celebrate the struggles, the fights, the sacrifices and the strength.
Being a woman is uniquely hard and beautifully tough.
It is a life that is renewed each day by different experiences.
So celebrate where we are coming from and what we hope to achieve.
Celebrate you.
Celebrate us.
Celebrate women.
