Trending on social media does not have a hard or fast rule. People trend for many reasons these days and it does not have to be a reasonable reason.
If your dream in life is to trend, then you do not need to be a hero or accomplish a great task to get the recognition.
If you want to be interviewed on BBC, you can do anything and get the attention.
News stations rely on trending topics
This brings me to discuss about the controversial ‘Mummy G.O’ who gave herself the responsibility of handpicking who gets into heaven and who goes to hell.
She began trending when clips of her videos were shared online with her erroneous claims of the criteria needed to attain eternity from the Christian perspective. Then it escalated when memes were made using her quotes and as usual, things she did not say were included.
As a Christian, I found what she did offensive. She portrayed an image that was untrue and it was neither an intentional comedy nor was it a criticism of Christianity.
She was making false claims and insistent on what she was saying.
Her manner of sharing was manipulative and pressurizing. She portrayed her messages as the truth when it was a bunch of concoction she had concocted to feed her listeners.
When she was interviewed by BBC, she blatantly refuted the video claiming it had been tampered with and instead asked that her name be cleared. However, the memes are still trending and will trend until people get tired of it.
She is just an example of people who get featured because of their trend on social media and as I said before, it was not because they did something significant or noble.
With all these being said, it is good to dream to be featured on BBC but it will be better to be featured for something worthy and reasonable.
Even if you do not get featured soon, continue to make a healthy impact, soon it will be your turn.
