Knowledge is one’s own perspectives that results from the teachings and learning of the environment in which one finds himself. But to acquire knowledge there is the need for patience, tolerance, perseverance and zeal from the person willing to pass knowledge down to another, and these are the attributes only a teacher possesses in the right combination and proportion. A teacher knows when to be gentle and when to be strict, they play their role effortlessly in such a way that it almost seems too easy to a novice who isn’t in their line of profession.
If you’ve ever tried teaching a child simple arithmetic then you are a bit closer in experience to one third of the troubles teachers go through in the classroom. A class of ten students will generally mean there are ten different students with ten different mode of assimilation and a teacher is obligated to figure out the best way to communicate to this students individually and collectively at the same time, of which sometimes the population of students can double or triple, depending on the type of school. This is why it hurts to see that the superheroes behind our successes mostly end up being the least paid in the list of professionals in the corporate world.
Tell anyone you want to be a teacher and the first reaction you get from them is a look that speaks “are you sure you know what you want” with an amplifier, they see you as one who isn’t ambitious forgetting without those teachers that taught them through their nursery days they wouldn’t even have a clue of how to write their simple names talk more of the fancy courses they studied.
Asides being custodians of knowledge who imprints what they’ve learnt upon the students they teach, they also double as guardians, counsellors, and mentors to children. They are the first line of defence for a child in the absence of their parents, their ears are always ready to listen and their hearts Everly ready to embrace any child in need of affection. Why do you think parents get excited when schools resume? It’s because they know they now have a trusted institution with capable hands to take care of their children without them having to worry as they go about their daily means of livelihood.
We trust them with our most priced and priceless possessions (our children) and they in turn have never failed us. So, since today is another teachers day why don’t you appreciate a teacher today. A gift no matter how little, a simple thank you with a sincere smile of gratitude will gladden a teacher’s heart today. Make them feel special-they deserve it.
