A good friend is hard to come by these days. When we find them, they make the journey of life more meaningful and colorful. Good friends are the spice of life! They share with us in our times of joy, celebration, sorrow, confusion etc. Friends also have the power to hurt us, because of the special place we give them in our hearts.
For you to truly enjoy the benefits of friendship, both parties must contribute meaningfully to the relationship. To maintain good friendships, you have to put in genuine efforts. If you’re like me who gets so busy and forgets to call her friends for months sometimes, YOU NEED TO CHANGE THAT!
Here are 6 simple ways to be a better friend;
- Call your friends regularly.
Even if it’s to simply check up on them and know how they’re doing at the moment. This could make all the difference in their day. End the conversation by reminding them that you’re there for them if they need anything. This can be very reassuring. If you already do this, WELL DONE.
- Remember their birthdays and celebrate with them in any little way.
Birthdays are special and more often than not, receiving best wishes from our friends make it more special. Don’t forget your friend’s birthday! Thankfully you have Facebook to give you a reminder. Also celebrate your friends; their achievements, business and projects.
- Pay them a sick visit when they’re ill.
This is a very deep way to show how much you love and care for you friends. It shows an effort to go the extra mile for them. Your presence can help brighten their day. Like they say, “a friend in need is a friend indeed”.
- Surprise them with gifts!
It doesn’t have to be exorbitant. No gift is too small to be appreciated. You can google ideas for simple yet special gifts for your friends based on what you know they’ll love. I plan to send scented candles to one lucky friend soon 😊.
- Be someone they trust and lean on
Trust is very important in every relationship. Everyone appreciates a trustworthy friend who is reliable and easy to lean on.
- Add value to your friends
Carry your friends along as you grow and develop as a person. Based on their interests, send them opportunities, articles, and basically any kind of content that will help them become better as a person and at what they do.
Try these suggestions and see how much your friendships will improve! Thank me later.
Cheers!
