With COVID-19 only gaining traction, outdoor valentine is an adventure you probably will not embark on, but these times should not hinder you from experiencing the best moments possible, especially if it’s the season of love. Here are five interesting and romantic To Dos for you and your partner whilst observing safety protocols.
Valentine Day Paraphernalia
Many may opine that this doesn’t get the birds to sing, but if you are quite the romantic, you know decorations never gets old. Homemade aromatherapy candles with vanilla or chili pepper scent send a serenading aura across the atmosphere. You can also amp the scene up with lots of pillows and flowers, indoor string lights or neon lights.
Dinner: Homemade or Order
It doesn’t have to be anything completely out of the ordinary requiring a tux or velvet gown. You can enjoy being your most self while settling to homemade African delicacies, something new fresh off YouTube or just a pot of chocolate fondue (You’ve had that pot for ages). You can also order your favourite meal, snack or pizza (pineapple pizza, who knows?) whilst sipping a glass or chugging a bottle of wine.
A Moment to Talk
So much has happened in the year already – work, projects, socioeconomic gbas gbos – and has left very little time for a tete-a-tete, even while we are mostly home with our beloved. This short moment before everything is back to schedule, is ideal for sitting down with your cuddle buddy and talking things out. Open up about anything, become more intimate, and even relive good memories.
Netflix and cuddle
This late evening activity is a charm when done right. You can play to watch just one random flick or binge on all-time valentine favourites, but ensure your movie choices are your partner’s choices, with a conversational narrative. You get the rare opportunity to customize your cinematic experience with the perfect lighting, room temperature and snack (there is more to pop than corn). If you’re unsure what movies to binge on, Netflix Nigeria has a host of lovely romantic movies.
Karaoke
And no, you don’t necessarily need to have your voice churning melody down an omnidirectional microphone with a booth streaming the lyrics to a song. You may not have all that equipment but you can still enjoy singing along your favourite jam with your partner, dancing like you got the groove on. It never gets old no matter what age you are, and it’s a mental getaway to the heydays when the ‘toasting’ was gaining traction, with songs from the 70s, 80s and 90s
Worthy Mention
Your valentine night can be presaged by an afternoon session of learning a new skill. You could fumble, trip over your learning materials or only ever end up a dilettante, but this tag team journey is the spice of it. Whether it’s a Youtube video or one partner being the tutor, don’t pick a complex craft (who enjoys C++ on love day?).
It never gets old to be romantic, and with poundage of stress, uncertainty and world daily altered by the pandemic, we would need all the love we can muster. So, get the gifts, set the room temperature to love degree, and create memories that will outlive this valentine.
